History of Canto III
Canto III had their start when Randy Saisho (Guitar &
Vocals) and Paul Morgana (Drums) met on their Academic Decathlon
team at Garfield High School, circa 1994. On a ride home,
Paul and Randy discussed similar music tastes and soon found
themselves in Randy's garage with Randy's brother Russell
(Bass & Vocals) jamming for the first time. The Stickmen
rose from the ashes of a predecessor band called Blue Solution,
where Randy and Russ played in briefly.
Quickly the trio put together some songs, both original
and covers and began playing regularly on Friday afternoons
as a source of stress release for Randy and Paul. The music
took a life of its own and in time the Stick played their
first "gig" in December of 1994, after competition
was over. It was to a small crowd of fellow decathletes,
coaches, and friends, but the show was an opus to the love
of music they all shared.
Their second show was in March of 1995, at the Garfield
High talent show. At this time they changed their name to
Luminus, which was quickly changed back to the Stick.
When college hit, the band played over the summers and eventually
temporarily dissolved, (Paul spent a year in the UK as a
student and played with a band called Clem in a couple of
Pubs in town), Randy was focusing on his classical guitar
performance and Russ delved "Into the Lungs of Hell,"
soaking up the metal music he so loves.
There was one more Stickmen show in June of 2001, where
they got an invitation from Paul's friends in band called
Burden of Time to open for them at a dive bar in Downey,
CA called the Hully Gully. The band rehearsed vigorously
for 1 month to hone down the 6 song set. The show came off
well even with playing with different equipment. This marked
the first Porno Stickmen show at a real venue.
The jam sessions became less and less as time went on. Randy
and Russ started to record some of the best songs on a new
8-Track without drummer Paul who had disappeared. Russ had
to play the drums on the tracks and the recordings were
sounding good.
Paul had a brief stint in a band called The Cellars with
childhood friends, but eventually the band quit, and Paul
was left with an itching to play.
This itch caused Paul to call Randy and try and re-kindle
the Stick. After a couple of months of phone tag, the Stick
were back in the infamous garage.
So far, since July, the band has been rehearsing fairly
regularly; they've re-vamped a classic song, have been working
on new songs, and even started to rehearse at a different
location, all in an effort to forge ahead with a new sound
but with the same spirit and vitality. To begin the new
year they rested on a new name, Canto III, and are forging
ahead searching for greater exposure within the musical
community. |
